Name: Leila Shahbender.

Position: Manager of student computing services at the Office of Information Technology. Supervising a staff that provides students with affordable computer equipment and software. Overseeing the maintenance of more than 30 computing facilities across campus. Supervising the residential computer consultant group, which enlists students to provide computer help to fellow students.

Quote: ''The students, staff and faculty at Princeton are a very special group. I like the daily challenges of my job, and the blend of providing technical support and interacting with users. It's a very satisfying combination.''

Other interests: Sailing with her husband, Kip, and her 14-year-old daughter, Alexandra, on the Chesapeake. Knitting, which she learned in the fourth grade.

Promotions

Dean of the Faculty David Dobkin has approved the promotions of six senior members of the professional research, technical and library staffs. They are:

Research -- Kateri Moore, to the rank of senior research molecular biologist (molecular biology); Matthias Steiner, to the rank of senior research scientist (civil and environmental engineering); Mikhail Shneyder, to the rank of research scientist with continuing appointment (mechanical and aerospace engineering). All are effective July 1, 2004.

Technical -- Belgacem Bouzaiene-Ayari, to the rank of senior technical staff member II with continuing appointment (operations research and financial engineering), effective July 1, 2004.

Library -- Scheide Librarian Paul Needham and Music Librarian Paula Matthews to the newly instituted rank of senior librarian, effective Sept. 1, 2004.
