Two new assistant professors named

Princeton NJ — The Board of Trustees has approved the appointments of two new assistant professors.

Roman Rafikov, who specializes in theoretical astrophysics, will join the astrophysical sciences faculty for a three-year term, effective Sept. 1, 2007. A graduate of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, he earned his Ph.D. from Princeton in 2002. He was a member of the Institute for Advanced Study from 2002 until 2005, when he became an assistant professor at the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics in Toronto.

Joshua Shaevitz, who specializes in biophysics, will join the Department of Physics and the Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics for a three-year term, effective July 1, 2007. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and his Ph.D. from Stanford University. Since 2004, he has been a fellow at the Miller Institute for Basic Research in Science at the University of California-Berkeley.


Board approves six promotions

The Board of Trustees has approved the promotions of six faculty members. The faculty members and their departments, by the academic rank to which they are being promoted, are:

ProfessorLeora Batnitzky, religion, effective Feb. 1, 2007; Angela Creager, history, effective Sept. 1, 2006; and Molly Greene, history, effective Sept. 1, 2006. 

Associate professor (with continuing tenure) — Marco Battaglini, economics; Hélène Ray, economics and international affairs; and Wei Xiong, economics. All are effective July 1, 2007.
