Princeton’s Campus Recreation Program
Princeton NJ — Every year, Princeton’s Campus Recreation Program organizes a set of “Healthy Offerings,” intended to help faculty, staff and students become more aware of their fitness and health and to provide ways to increase their level of fitness. All offerings are available to those who purchase a membership to Dillon Gym.

• Last year more than 2,900 people participated in one of 60 classes offering instruction in dance, group fitness, self-defense, racquet sports, wellness and other fields. Free trial classes will be offered Feb. 5-9.
• In the 2006 Fitness Challenge held last February, 24 participants had to compete in six events. On the bench press, participants were judged by the number of reps they did with their full body weight (for the men) or half their body weight (for the women). On the bar hang, the person who hung on the longest won. On the stretch, the person with the widest stretch won. The winners of the other events had the best times rowing 2,000 meters, biking five miles or stair climbing 50 floors. For the first time, the faculty/staff team beat the student team.
• Thirty-six people participated in the Faculty/Staff Fitness Decathlon held last April and May, which involved completing 10 fitness tasks over five weeks, including biking five miles, rowing 2,000 meters, stair climbing 100 floors and running three miles. The next faculty/staff decathlon starts March 26.
• The Faculty/Staff Fitness Relays held last October pitted three-person relay teams of those under 40 against teams of those over 40. Participants had to complete the same 10 fitness tasks as in the Faculty/Staff Fitness Decathlon, and points were awarded based on one’s performance relative to others. Thirty people participated, with the under-40 team prevailing.
• Personal trainers, weight management programs and fitness appraisals also are available. Registration for spring programs begins Feb. 5. For more information or to register, call 258-8549 or visit www.princeton.edu/campusrec.
