Clothing drive, other outreach planned

Princeton NJ — Members of the University community will have the opportunity to share the holiday spirit through a clothing drive and several other community service initiatives being coordinated through the Office of Community and Regional Affairs.

The clothing drive will benefit the Hire Attire Boutique, an organization that collects “gently used’’ business clothes for men and women. University community members are being asked to clean out their closets in the coming weeks in preparation for the Jan. 17-24 drive.

Other activities include participating in a holiday gift outreach to “adopted” families and filling wish lists of items for infants through senior citizens provided by area agencies. For more information, visit web.princeton.edu/ sites/ pucra.

The clothing goes to people who are entering or re-entering the workforce after completing a New Jersey job training program.

Those interested in donating clothing will be able to drop off items in the OIT Training Room at the Armory (Washington Road side) between 8 and 9 a.m. and 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. weekdays from Jan. 17 through Jan. 24.

Hire Attire is part of the New Brunswick-based Adult Learning Center. The clothing goes to people who are entering or re-entering the workforce after completing a New Jersey job training program. The organization needs all types of business and business-casual clothing in good condition including suits, dress slacks, khakis, dress shirts, collared casual shirts, blazers, skirts, sweaters, dresses, jackets, coats, ties, belts and other accessories. Donations are tax deductible.

The drive is being coordinated by the offices of the vice provost for institutional equity and diversity, community and regional affairs, and building services.

For more information about the community service initiatives or to volunteer to assist with the clothing drive, contact Erin Metro in community and regional affairs at emetro@princeton.edu or 258-5144.
