The Prospect House offers new options for dining on campus

Princeton NJ -- The Prospect House, the private dining club serving all full-time faculty and staff at Princeton, has implemented a variety of new events to reach out to a wider range of people.

Each month, the house schedules several special events ranging from holiday meals to theme dinners. The program for this year has been revised, with an increase in the number of events offered at a lower price. For example, a perennial favorite, Walter's Soul Food Buffet (named in honor of Walter Griffin, hospitality manager in the house's Garden Room), is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 20. Last year, the event was priced at $18.95; this year, the price is $9.95.

''The feedback we received from our board was that we needed to offer more lower-cost events,'' said Syed Raza, general manager of the Prospect House. The Prospect House Association is advised by a 16-member managing board elected from the faculty and staff.

In addition, the calendars distributed through campus mail each month will now include coupons that will offer discounted pricing for certain special events.

Also in response to feedback from its members, the Prospect House Association has scheduled some ongoing events on a trial basis that are intended to promote social and intellectual interchange among faculty and staff. On Wednesdays from October through December, Afternoon High Tea with assorted sandwiches and petit fours will be served from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Parlor Room at a cost of $6.50 per person. On Thursdays and Fridays, there will be a Social Hour with wine, beer and cheese from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Library at a cost of $5 to $10 per glass.

The Prospect House, a department of University Services, is managed by Restaurant Associates. In addition to serving as the site of special events, the house offers lunches on weekdays in two locations: the Tap Room for casual dining; and the Garden Room for full-service dining. The house is available throughout the year to host University events for departments as well as private events for faculty and staff members.
