Parking changes intended to provide improved service
Princeton NJ — The University has made several changes in its parking regulations, effective Sept. 15. The changes are intended to provide improved and consistent service to members of the University community.
They are:
• New pre-printed parking passes for one-day visitors are available to department administrators. Department administrators may now request up to 20 visitor passes at one time from the TigerCard/parking office. Departments will no longer have to wait until a visitor requests a pass, giving the department much greater flexibility. When a visitor is expected, the department administrator simply must complete the pre-printed pass by writing in the date and giving it to the visitor to be placed on the left corner of the dash. Departments may even wish to mail passes in advance of the visit with instructions on where to park. The lot assignment for the visitor is the same as the lot assignment for the occupants of the building.
• New pre-printed parking passes for short-term overnight guests are available to occupants of University-owned housing. Residents may request up to five passes at one time in advance of having an overnight guest. The pass must be completed with the date once the guest arrives and placed on the left corner of the dash. Passes are required in the housing parking lots from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. When the TigerCard/parking office is closed, pre-printed passes will be available from booth officers on Elm Drive. There are visitor areas at the Graduate College and at Lawrence Apartments where parking is allowed without a pass for up to 48 hours. Longer-term visitors should go to the TigerCard/parking office on the A floor of New South to register their vehicles.
• Overnight parking is permitted. Previously prohibited, parking between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. is now allowed for faculty, staff and graduate students in all campus lots (except lots 8, 9 and 18) with a valid University parking permit; undergraduates must park overnight in lot 23. Vehicles should not be left for an extended period and should not be parked overnight when snow is predicted.
Members of the University community are reminded that there are penalties for parking violations on campus. During each academic year, a driver can receive one warning. A second violation will result in a citation for $20 if paid in the first 10 days or $30 if paid after 10 days. After three citations, the fine is raised to $50 for each additional ticket until the end of the year on June 30.
Campus drivers also are reminded to use “Authorized Vehicle” cards for special short-term parking circumstances. Department administrators may request AV cards from the TigerCard/parking office to be shared among their employees. Notes on dashboards are not recognized as permits.
University parking regulations are available online at www.princeton.edu/ parking/ _parking/ regulations.html. Those who have questions or need more information may contact the TigerCard/parking office by phone at 258-3157 or by e-mail at Special-Parking@princeton.edu.
