Celebrating the start of a new academic year

alt   alt

Princeton NJ — The University community marked the beginning of a new academic year with Opening Exercises on Sept. 10. Students streamed into the chapel for the interfaith service and gathered outside afterward.

Members of the class of 2010 participated in a “pre-rade” from the chapel through FitzRandolph Gate, giving them the opportunity to officially enter the campus to start their undergraduate experience and to be greeted by fellow Princetonians.

President Tilghman and Woodrow Wilson School Dean Anne-Marie Slaughter (above, right) led a few locomotive cheers for the new students.

Honored for their academic achievements were (pictured from left) George B. Wood Legacy Junior Prize winner Glen Weyl; Class of 1939 Princeton Scholar Award winner Tamara Broderick; Freshman First Honor Prize winner Wei Ho; and George B. Wood Legacy Sophomore Prize co-winner Zachary Squire (co-winner Andrei Negut was not present). The University Band later entertained the crowd on Alexander Beach at a picnic.
