Online book club features ‘tiger tomes’

Princeton NJ — Tiger Tomes: Princeton’s Online Book Club” is being offered again this year by the Alumni Association to all members of the University community.

The club, launched last fall, is intended to bring together alumni, parents, faculty, staff, friends and others to read books by Princeton authors, alumni and faculty alike.

The club will run from September through April. For each monthly selection, an online discussion forum will allow participants to explore the author and book in more detail. The forum will include reviews of the book, interviews with the author, supplemental materials and an online discussion group. When possible, an event will be scheduled at the end of each month to allow participants to discuss the book, or themes related to the book, with other Princetonians.

The selections for this year are:

• September — “Satisfaction: The Science of Finding True Fulfillment” by Gregory Berns ’86.

• October — “Natives and Exotics” by Jane Alison ’83.

• November — “Cosmopolitanism: Ethics in a World of Strangers” by Kwame Anthony Appiah, the Laurance S. Rockefeller University Professor of Philosophy and the University Center for Human Values.

• February — “A Larger Sense of Purpose: Higher Education and Society” by Harold T. Shapiro, 1964 graduate alumnus, president emeritus of the University and professor of economics and public affairs.

• March — “King of Kings County” by Whitney Terrell ’91.

• April — “I Am No One You Know” by Joyce Carol Oates, the Roger S. Berlind ’52 Professor in the Humanities.
