Subscriptions. The Bulletin is distributed free to faculty, staff and students. Others may subscribe to the Bulletin for $30 for the academic year (half price for current Princeton parents and people over 65). Deadline. In general, the copy deadline for each issue is the Friday 10 days in advance of the Monday cover date. The deadline for the Bulletin that covers Sept. 20-26 is Friday, Sept. 10. A complete publication schedule is available at deadlines or by calling (609) 258-3601.

Terri Harris Reed, assistant dean for graduate education in the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, has been named associate provost for institutional equity.

Reed, who has 20 years of university administrative experience, will serve as a member of the provost's staff, primarily responsible for issues related to diversity and equal opportunity throughout the Princeton community. She also will collaborate with colleagues both inside and outside of the provost's office to address matters of institutional policy and allocation of resources.

''I am absolutely delighted that Terri Harris Reed has agreed to become associate provost for institutional equity,'' said Provost Christopher Eisgruber. ''As a result of her exceptional work as assistant dean in the Woodrow Wilson School, she has earned the friendship and respect of many people at Princeton. I am confident that her energy, intelligence and breadth of experience will quickly enable her to become a leader on issues of diversity and equity.''

Before coming to Princeton in January 2003, Reed served as assistant dean at the University of Maryland's School of Public Affairs and associate dean of students at the Harris School of Public Policy at the University of Chicago. She also was an admission officer responsible for minority recruitment at Oberlin and Calvin colleges.

In her new role, Reed will function as Princeton's affirmative action officer. She will work with the offices of the dean of the faculty and human resources to develop and improve programs to increase Princeton's ability to attract, hire and retain a diverse work force and will work with several other offices to advance Princeton's vision of inclusiveness for all of its members. She also will oversee the Disability Services Network and serve as liaison to the University ombuds office.

Reed will assume several of the responsibilities previously handled by Joann Mitchell, who had been vice provost for administration at Princeton and now serves as vice president and chief of staff at the University of Pennsylvania. Reed earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Calvin College and a master's degree in administration, planning and social policy from Harvard University. She is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Communication and Culture at Howard University.

Mary Baum has been named director of leadership gifts in the Office of Development.

She joined the development staff in 1994 as an associate director of corporate and foundation relations, and became the director in 1996. In her new capacity, Baum will be responsible for leading the growing leadership gifts team as it raises funds for Princeton's highest capital priorities, as well as playing an important role in strategic planning for the next campaign.

The Office of Leadership Gifts works with individual alumni, parents and friends of Princeton who wish to make restricted gifts to the University, seeking to match the interests of the donors with the endowment and capital needs of the University.

''As director of corporate and foundation relations, Mary has provided strong leadership and demonstrated excellent management and administrative abilities,'' said Michele Minter, director of development. ''She is highly regarded by the University's senior administrative team and by all of the key alumni and campus volunteers with whom she has worked. Mary is a very effective fund-raiser who has managed Princeton's relationships with many key corporate and foundation leaders, and she has played a central role in working with the provost's office to develop fund-raising priorities.''

According to Minter, a search for a new director of corporate and foundation relations is under way. During the interim period, Norman McNatt, associate director of corporate and foundation relations, is serving as acting director.

A graduate of the State University of New York-Albany, Baum earned her Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Princeton in 1989. Before joining the development staff, she was a research scientist at Merck Research Laboratories. Prior to that, she managed the nuclear magnetic resonance facility in Princeton's chemistry department.
