Community/Staff Day set for Oct. 11

Princeton NJ -- The gates to the University are open to members of the local community through a variety of programs and activities.

Staff members at Princeton and residents of the local community are invited to an annual celebration of arts, entertainment, sports and community service Saturday, Oct. 11, at Princeton Stadium.

Community/Staff Day consists of pre-football game festivities featuring activities for all ages and interests: snacks, prizes, balloon sculptors, face painters, spin artists, strolling musicians and Polaroid pictures. In addition, the day will include a community track event (with free T-shirts for all participants) and a Community Information Fair (where area nonprofit organizations have exhibits highlighting their missions and volunteer needs).

A special feature at this year's event will be a town/gown historical exhibit from the Historical Society of Princeton of photos and trivia about the buildings and architecture in town and on campus. Door prizes will include books and art prints related to the historical buildings.

The track event registration will begin at 11:30 a.m. The other activities also will get under way at 11:30 a.m. and will run until 2:30 p.m. The kickoff for the Princeton vs. Colgate football game is at 1 p.m.

Following the game, there will be a block party in the Prospect Street neighborhood featuring entertainment and food cooked by the Princeton eating club chefs. Participants will be invited into many of the eating clubs for tours.

All of the pre-game festivities are included in the price of the football ticket admission, which is $7 for adults, $5 for children ages 2 to 14 and free for children under 2. All University staff (anyone with a PUID or employment card) may pick up their complimentary tickets on the morning of Oct. 11 at a specially designated ticket window. Or, tickets may be obtained in advance at the ticket office in Jadwin Gymnasium (258-3538).

Community/Staff Day is sponsored by the Office of Community and State Affairs, the Office of Human Resources and the Department of Athletics. For more information about the event (not ticket sales), call 258-5144.
