Deadlines. All news, photos and calendar entries for the Bulletin that covers September 27 through October 3 must be received in the Communications office no later than Friday, September 17.


The Bulletin is published weekly during the academic year, except during University breaks and exam weeks, by the Communications Office. Second class postage paid at Princeton. Permission is given to adapt, reprint or excerpt material from the Bulletin for use in other media.


Subscriptions. Anyone can subscribe to the Bulletin. A subscription for the academic year 1999-2000 is $24 (half price if you're over 65 or are a Princeton parent). Make check payable to Princeton University and mail it to PWB, Communications, Stanhope Hall, Princeton University, Princeton, NJ 08544. All members of the faculty, staff and student body receive the Bulletin without charge.

Genetically altered mice with improved learning ability attract world-wide attention

Kathryn Taylor to direct Alumni Council

Kathryn Taylor has been named director of the Alumni Council, as of October 4.
    A member of the Class of 1974, she has professional experience in banking, teaching, choral music, writing and editing. She succeeds Daniel White '65, who retired this summer after 19 years as director. [>>more]

     


Montero to become Brown vp

Dean of Student Life Janina Montero has accepted the post of vice president for campus life and student services at Brown University, as of January 1. [>>more]

 

 


Princeton launches Society of Fellows

The Princeton Society of Fellows in the Liberal Arts will bring young scholars to campus to enhance their teaching and research while providing an infusion of fresh ideas and approaches to education and scholarship. [>>more]

 


Program promotes graduate school

Endowed chairs named;
trustees promote seven

Eight professors were named to endowed chairs, and seven associate professors were promoted to professor by the trustees, effective July 1. [>>more]

 


University hosts Community Day

Everyone is invited to Community Day at the Princeton Stadium on September 25.
    The festivities begin at 3:00 pm on the Weaver Track with a 400-meter run for participants over 12 years old and a 100-meter dash for youngsters 12 and under, grouped by gender and age. All entrants receive T-shirts, and winners will be awarded prizes. (To register, call 258-5144. Walk-in registrants are accepted, but only those who pre-register are guaranteed T-shirts.)
    At 4:00 pm the concourse will be open to anyone with a football ticket ($5 for community members, free for University staff). There will be jugglers, balloon sculptors, face painters, musicians, caricaturists, a community service fair, and an exhibit of paintings, photographs, sculptures and crafts by local artists (to register for the art exhibit, call 609-258-5144).
    The day will end with Princeton's first night-time football game Princeton vs. Lehigh.

 


Campus Shuttle schedule

Shuttle A operates every 20 minutes from 5:00 to 10:40 pm and every 40 minutes from 10:40 pm to 1:00 am. The last run begins at 12:20 am.
    It departs from Stanhope (5:00 pm) and stops at Firestone Plaza (5:02), Dillon Gym (5:03), Butler/Wilson (5:04), Lot 23 (5:05), Graduate College (5:09), Forbes College (5:12), Lawrence Apts. (5:15), Woodrow Wilson School (5:20), Frick/Lot 10 (5:22), E-Quad/Third World Center (5:23), Lot 4 and 25 (5:24), Butler Apts. (5:28), Lot 21/DeNunzio (5:32), Hibben/Magie Apts. (5:35) and Lot 23 (5:37); it returns to Stanhope at 5:40 pm.
    Shuttle B, the late night express, operates every 20 minutes, starting at 10:40 pm. The last run leaves Stanhope at 1:30 am.
    Schedules are approximate and may vary slightly. During holidays and academic breaks the shuttle operates every 30 minutes. For more information call Public Safety at 258-3134.

     


Community auditors should register

Members of the community who wish to audit University classes during the coming semester must register with the Office of Community and State Affairs. Please call 258-0202 to request information or a registration form.
