Staff appointments

Courtney Banghart, who has been part of Ivy League championship teams as a player and coach at Dartmouth, has been named head coach of the Princeton women’s basketball team.

Banghart, an assistant coach at Dartmouth since 2003, replaces Richard Barron, who is now associate head coach at Baylor.

“I am excited for the opportunity to lead Princeton. I am very connected to the Ivy League, and I believe in its values and what it stands for,” Banghart said. “Being able to continue building a women’s basketball tradition at Princeton is very exciting.”

Banghart earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2000 and her master’s degree in writing and leadership development this year from Dartmouth.

Gary Walters, Princeton’s director of athletics, said, “As a member of the University community, I am excited that Courtney Banghart will assume the reins of the women’s basketball program. Courtney’s knowledge of the game and capacity for leadership are palpable strengths that made her an extraordinarily attractive candidate. She was a terrific player at Dartmouth and has been associated with winning programs all her life. It is our belief that the women’s basketball program will establish significant momentum under her leadership.”

Banghart helped lead Dartmouth to Ivy League championships and NCAA tournament appearances in 2005 and 2006. A three-year starter at Dartmouth, she was an integral part of Ivy League championship teams in her junior and senior years, earning first-team All-Ivy honors both seasons.

Treby Williams has been named the director of planning and administration in the Office of the Executive Vice President. Her appointment is effective Sept. 1, 2007.

Williams, a 1984 Princeton graduate, has served as the director of the Office of Development Priorities since 2005. She will be responsible for leading cross-University projects based in the Office of the Executive Vice President and managing negotiations with outside entities and representing the University on boards and committees on behalf of that office. She also will coordinate budget issues, evaluate opportunities to improve or expand services, and help launch new administrative initiatives.

“I am honored by Treby’s interest in joining our office,” said Mark Burstein, executive vice president. “Her strong management skills, deep knowledge of the University and extensive negotiation experience are excellent preparation for the challenges ahead.”

Before joining the development office staff, Williams was an assistant U.S. attorney in the southern district of New York and the district of New Jersey from 1992 to 2004. She also worked for three years for Coudert Brothers in London and New York.

Williams earned a law degree from New York University. A member of the Princeton Day School board of trustees since 1999, she currently serves as its vice chair.

She will succeed Ben Hammond, who has become director of administrative services in the University’s facilities department.
