Community Day at Princeton Stadium set for Oct. 8

Princeton NJ — Residents of the campus and local communities are invited to an annual celebration of arts, entertainment, sports and community service on Saturday, Oct. 8, at Princeton Stadium.

Community Day consists of activities for all ages and interests starting at 11:30 a.m. and running until halftime (about 2 p.m.) of the Princeton vs. Colgate football game. The theme for this year will be “service is smart and a great formula for life.”

Youngsters got their faces painted and ran in track events during
the 2004 Community Day celebration.

Activities will include track events and a community service fair featuring exhibits by local organizations. Track meet participants will receive Princeton baseball hats.

Free snacks, Polaroid pictures and souvenirs will be offered. Also attending will be a face painter, balloon artist, spin artist, banjo player and “Albert Einstein,” who will reinforce the theme for the day by asking trivia questions and giving out prizes—$10 Smart Cards for parking in downtown Princeton—to those who can provide answers.

All of the festivities are included with the purchase of a $6 ticket to the football game, which begins at 1 p.m. Tickets are available at the stadium ticket booth beginning at 11 a.m.

All University staff (anyone with a Princeton University ID card) may pick up complimentary tickets in advance between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, Oct. 3-7, at the Princeton University Federal Credit Union located at the Armory on Washington Road. Tickets also will be made available on the day of the game at the northeast ticket booth, which opens at 11 a.m.

Community Day is sponsored by the Office of Community and State Affairs, the Office of Human Resources and the Department of Athletics. For more information, call 258-5144; for advance ticket purchases, call 258-3538.

The community service theme will spill over to Sunday, Oct. 9, when Princeton In the Nation’s Service, a student-inspired project to build sustainable town/gown civic engagement partnerships, will host a 5K walkathon in Princeton. Proceeds will go toward after-school tutoring programs in the community. For more information on the walkathon, call 258-8450.
