Bartels, Teiser are named to endowed professorships Larry Bartels (l) and Stephen Teiser (Photos by Denise Applewhite)   Two faculty members have been named to endowed chairs, as of July 1, 1999: Larry Bartels and Stephen Teiser. Bartels, whose area of expertise is electoral politics, public opinion and research methodology, has been named first incumbent of the Donald E. Stokes Professorship in Public and International Affairs. Bartels joined the faculty at Princeton as Stuart Professor of Communications and Public Affairs in 1991. He currently chairs the Board of Overseers of the American National Election Studies. He is coeditor of a forthcoming volume on "Campaign Reform: Insights and Evidence," presenting the work of the national Task Force on Campaign Reform he chaired in 1997-98 Teiser, a specialist in Chinese Buddhism, has been named D.T. Suzuki Professor in Buddhist Studies. Teiser, who earned his PhD at Princeton in 1986, has been a member of the faculty since 1988. His 1988 book, The Ghost Festival in Medieval China, was recently published in Chinese translation. Teiser's current research examines prayers for rebirth and pictures of the afterlife in medieval China. top
