HEADLINE: Former Democratic Congressman James Clarke dies at 82

Former U.S. Rep. James McClure Clarke, who served three terms in Congress in the 1980s, died at home of prostate cancer. He was 81.

A Vermont native and graduate of Princeton University, Clarke had collapsed in his home's courtyard Tuesday after working in his vegetable garden, his daughter, Annie Ager, said today.

Clarke's working life included dairy and apple farming, eight years as senior editor of the Asheville Citizen-Times in the 1960s and managing the Farmers Federation and of the McClure Scholarship Fund, which was responsible for 50 to 100 college scholarships a year.

He was elected to the state House in 1976 and the state Senate in 1980.

Clarke and Republican Rep. Bill Hendon spent the 1980s battling over the 11th District U.S. House seat. ...

Students at Princeton University say it's likely some will again run naked through the snow next winter, despite the threat of a one-year suspension for anyone caught participating in the"Nude Olympics."

The university's Board of Trustees, citing participants drunkenness and rowdy behavior in recent years, voted to outlaw the decades-long tradition of sophomores sprinting naked through a courtyard after the first snowfall of the year.

Ten people required hospital treatment, most for intoxication, after the most recent renewal of the event on Jan. 8. University officials said several students engaged in sexual activity outdoors, while other women were groped by male students. ...

Charles Weber

Charles Weber, age 83, a resident of Newbury Park, passed away on Saturday,

April 10, 1999, at Los Robles Regional Medical Center.

During his working career, Charles Weber participated in he development of the U.S. missile program in the '50s, helped in the development of the first computer at Princeton Universityin the '60s and went on to become an aerospace engineer in the '70s. ...
