‘Go-to man’ in electric shop marks 50 years at University

At 8 a.m. on Nov. 17, 2008, electrician Renato (Ronnie) Carazzai walked into a room in the basement of Frick Laboratory and looked around. He had been in that room at the same hour on the morning of Nov. 17, 1958, to do some rewiring. It was the start of a 50-year career at Princeton. For half a century, Carazzai has been the “high man” in Princeton’s electric shop — climbing heights to change lightbulbs, hang signs and wire tents — and he has no plans to give up the role anytime soon.

Digital library of Islamic manuscripts now available online
Princeton has placed a new digital library of 200 Islamic manuscripts online for scholars to consult and study. These manuscripts were selected from some 9,500 volumes of Islamic manuscripts in Arabic, Persian, Ottoman Turkish and other languages of the Muslim world in the University Library’s Department of Rare Books and Special Collections. Princeton’s extraordinary holdings constitute the premier collection in the Western Hemisphere and among the finest in the world, according to Don Skemer, curator of manuscripts.

Library acquires papers of former Time editor
The Princeton University Library has acquired the papers of the American journalist, editor and author T.S. (Thomas Stanley) Matthews, a member of Princeton’s class of 1922 who spent much of his long and distinguished professional career at Time magazine. Born in Cincinnati in 1901, Matthews was the nephew of William Cooper Procter, a member of Princeton’s class of 1883 and the grandson of a founder of Procter & Gamble. He was the son of Paul Matthews, valedictorian of Princeton’s class of 1887 and Episcopal bishop of New Jersey for 22 years.
