Christensen, a professor of politics and international affairs, returned to campus this past fall after serving for two years as U.S. deputy assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs, with responsibility for policy toward China, Taiwan and Mongolia.

Architects chosen for new Andlinger Center

Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects, a New York firm known for its careful attention to context, creative use of materials and innovative modernist work, has been chosen to design Princeton’s new Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment. The firm is led by the eponymous husband and wife team, who have worked together since 1977 and been in partnership since 1986. Williams earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architecture in 1965 and 1967, respectively, from Princeton.

Chemistry pioneer Kauzmann dies at 92

Walter Kauzmann, whose deep insights into the water-loathing properties of greasy molecules paved the way for the modern study of proteins, has died at age 92. Kauzmann, the David B. Jones Professor Emeritus of Chemistry, who also discovered a puzzling behavior of glass that came to be known as the Kauzmann Paradox, died in his sleep at Stonebridge at Montgomery on Jan. 27. He had been suffering from pneumonia and had been in declining health for the past year.

Brombert honored by French ambassador
Princeton Professor Emeritus Victor Brombert was presented with the Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur (Legion of Honor) in a ceremony Feb. 6 at Maclean House. Pierre Vimont, ambassador of France to the United States, awarded Brombert with the highest decoration of France. It was created by Napoleon in 1802 and is given for gallantry in military action or distinguished service in military or civilian life for work that enhances the reputation of France through scholarship, arts, sciences or politics.

Spring Dance Festival set for Feb. 20-22
Works by faculty, guest and student choreographers will be performed in Princeton’s annual Spring Dance Festival, “Spring Into Dance,” Friday through Sunday, Feb. 20-22, at the Berlind Theatre. This year’s concert features students performing works from the company repertory of Zvi Gotheiner and Takehiro Ueyama; premieres by Rebecca Lazier, Cherylyn Lavagnino and Edisa Weeks; and seven student-choreographed dances.

Exhibition celebrates 50th anniversary of University Archives
The richness and depth of the collections of the Princeton University Archives are the focus of “‘The Best Old Place of All’: Treasures From the Princeton University Archives,” a new exhibition at the Seeley G. Mudd Manuscript Library opening Friday, Feb. 20. The exhibition coincides with the yearlong celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the University Archives and features some of the most historically significant documents and objects from the collection alongside seldom-seen treasures. It will run through Friday, Jan. 29.
