By the numbers

The Office of Career Services annually surveys Princeton seniors to gather information about their post-graduation plans. The class of 2008 survey, conducted in May and June, revealed that:

• Sixty-nine percent of graduating seniors were pursuing full-time employment or yearlong internships, while 21 percent were planning further education. About 6 percent were planning to join the military, travel, play professional sports or pursue other opportunities. About 4 percent of students did not respond to the survey.
• Of those employed full time, the most popular career choices were investment banking and other financial services (42 percent); consulting and other service industries (30 percent); education and other nonprofit work (15 percent); manufacturing (7 percent); communications (2 percent); and government (2 percent).
• Twelve percent of the graduates accepted yearlong internships, typically in nonprofit, public service and international organizations.
• Among those planning further education, the largest concentrations were in sciences and mathematics (23 percent); medicine (21 percent); humanities (17 percent); engineering (15 percent); law (15 percent); and social sciences (7 percent).
• Six percent of the students will be working outside the United States, while the others will work in the Northeast (58 percent); the Mid-Atlantic (16 percent); the Southwest and West (11 percent); the Midwest (4 percent); the Northwest (3 percent); and the Southeast (2 percent).
