Shapiro offers fanfare for '03
The change was made because of complications in the schedule of freshman registration and orientation due to the Jewish holiday of Rosh HaShanah, and there were some who feared that the midweek date would affect attendance. If it did, however, it wasn't for the worse: the Chapel was as crowded and the atmosphere as festive as ever when President Shapiro welcomed the Class of 2003. The basement of Stanhope Hall was just one place where the University provided extra coolers of bottled water when the local supplier called for conservation of tap water after the plant was damaged on September 16 by floods associated with Hurricane Floyd. In addition to warning area residents to boil their drinking water, Elizabethtown Water Co. requested that everyone refrain from showering or washing clothes or dishes for several days until repairs could be made to the Bridgewater facility that supplies 70 percent of the company's daily water volume. September 18 but lost to Connecticut 3-1 on September 19.

Volleyball (women). The Tigers defeated Loyola 3-0 on
September 17 and Youngstown State 3-1 and St. Francis 3-0 on

Water polo (men). Princeton beat U Mass 11-9, Boston
College 11-4 and Brown 12-6 and lost to Queens 11-10 on
