Harayda to begin as PAW editor

Janice Harayda will become editor of the Princeton Alumni Weekly, effective July 1. Currently vice president for awards at the National Book Critics Circle and author of The Accidental Bride (1999), she was formerly book editor and critic for the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Harayda will be the first PAW editor who has not held a degree from Princeton. A native of New Brunswick, she graduated from the University of New Hampshire. She was a staff writer for Glamour and editorial director for Boston magazine. Her book reviews have been published in the Washington Post, Chicago Tribune and Philadelphia Inquirer, and she has written numerous free-lance articles for such newspapers as the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Christian Science Monitor. In addition to her newly published novel, she is the author of The Joy of Being Single (1986).

"We were very impressed with Jan's energy, her enthusiasm, and the depth of her experience in journalism and publishing," said Peter Brown '70, chair of the PAW board of trustees. "Though the University was not coeducational at the time she applied to college, Princeton has always been an important presence in her life."

The PAW, an independent alumni magazine with a circulation of 60,000, is now published 17 times a year by Princeton Alumni Publications Inc., a nonprofit support organization of Princeton University.
