There's always something interesting at
Commencement," said President Harold Shapiro with a
smile.
On the platform in front
of some 10,000 spectators, salutatorian T. Wickham
Schmidt had just concluded his Latin address
"Valete omnes--and, Anastacia Rohrman, I'd like to
ask you to marry me." In her seat on the Front
Campus, classmate Rohrman was dumbfounded but soon
mustered the presence of mind to raise a
hand-lettered sign--"Yes"--provided by a friend.

Bagley Wright, president of Bagley Wright
Investments, has committed $4 million to renovation
of 93-year-old Patton Hall. A member of the Class
of 1946, Wright was a developer of Seattle's
landmark Space Needle and chair of Physio Control
Corp. from 1968 until its acquisition by Eli Lilly

Prospect Board elects officers
The Prospect Association
Managing Board held its annual meeting and election
of officers on May 12 at Prospect House.
Edward Wladas of the
Engineering School was elected president, and Linda
Clos of Conference Services was elected vice
president. The new members of the board for the
Class of 2003 are Kenny Grayson of Facilities, Fran
Johnson of CIT, Claire Myones of Hellenic Studies
and Michael Wood of the English Department.

The winning design for the Princeton Picnic
tee-shirt was submitted by Terry Slover, John
Slover, Becky Davis and Natacha Ruiz of Molecular
Biology. The picnic will be on June 8.
