Student bioethics

President Shapiro (l) converses with Ian Wilmut, the Scottish scientist who cloned Dolly the sheep, and Katie Tillman '99 before dinner on the first day of the National Undergraduate Bioethics Conference, "Bioethics in the New Millennium." New professor

In Psychology and the Woodrow Wilson School, Eldar Shafir has been named professor of psychology and public affairs as of July 1. A member of the faculty since 1989, Shafir studies human reasoning and behavioral economics. Tenured since 1995, he teaches courses in cognitive psychology, judgment and decision making, psychology and policy, and seminars on inference and reasoning. This semester he is coteaching The Psychology and Philosophy of Rationality and a graduate seminar in the Woodrow Wilson School on Psychology for Policy Analysis and Implementation. Dance in the library

The Cotsen Children's Library hosted a creative movement workshop for 25 children in the Princeton Young Achievers program on February 25. Choreographer Aleta Hayes (r), lecturer in the Council of the Humanities and Theater and Dance, led the workshop, drawing inspiration from children's books featured in a current exhibit at the Cotsen Gallery: "African American Dance: A Picture Book History."(photo: Denise Applewhite)

Film

The Jewish Studies film series on Germany, Jews and the Future of Memory will present Wolfgang Staudte's The Murderers Are Among Us at 7:30 p.m. on March 9 in 2 Robertson. The film will be shown in German with English subtitles.

Children's talk

This terracotta vase will be discussed by docent Lynne Giviskos in the children's talk "Greek Vase Painting" at the Art Museum at 11:00 a.m. on March 13.

Progressive Irish dance

The Trinity Irish Dance Co. will appear at 8:00 p.m. on March 12 in McCarter Theatre.



Beardsley on display

"Unused design for the Yellow Book," a 1894-95 pen and ink, is featured in the exhibit "Aubrey Beardsley, 1872-1898: A Centennial Exhibition" in the Milberg Gallery at Firestone Library through April 8.
    On March 10, the Friends of the Library are sponsoring two free public lectures in connection with the exhibit, one on the Yellow Book and the other on Beardsley collectors. Beginning at 4:30 p.m. in 101 McCormick, the lectures will be followed by a reception in the Milberg Gallery.

Indonesian art forms

The Dancers and Musicians of Bali will perform at 3:00 p.m. on March 14 in McCarter Theatre.
