United Way campaign raises $148,000

"A gain this year, the Princeton University United Way campaign resulted in an extraordinary showing of good will and generosity by the University community," said Dean of Religious Life Joseph Williamson. Williamson chaired the campus fund drive, which raised $146,720 for local charities.

More than 31 percent of the faculty and staff on the main campus and 40 percent at the Plasma Physics Lab participated in the campaign, donating more than $129,300 -- $108,080 from main campus and $21,221 from Plasma Physics. The University matched the employee gifts with contributions of 15 cents on the dollar for payroll deductions and 10 cents on the dollar for other donations.

The funds will be distributed among the agencies and programs of the Greater Mercer County United Way and other health and human services agencies outside the county that were designated by individual employees.

"This campaign was successful," said Williamson, "because of the commitment of the executive committee, the faithfulness of the highly motivated volunteers and the generous response of the University community."
