Conference studies art of Toni Morrison

"Envisioning Paradise: A Conference on Toni Morrison's Art and Imagination," sponsored by the Program in African American Studies, will be held in Wood Auditorium, McCosh 50, on February 12 and 13.

Friday events include a panel on "The Toni Morrison Society: Engendering New Paces for Scholarship, Pedagogy and Cultural Work" and a keynote address, "Claiming a Heritage -- Creating a Heritage: Toni Morrison's Novels in the American Grain," by Nellie McKay of the University of Wisconsin.

Saturday events include panels on "African American Critical Practice: How 'Real' Is Blackness?" and "Meditations on Morrison's Oeuvre," as well as a one-hour reading by Toni Morrison, followed by an on-stage interview by Paula Giddings of Duke University.

Guaranteed seating in Helm Auditorium, McCosh 50 is available to the first 400 people who register for the conference. Closed circuit viewing is available for an additional 300.
