United Way campaign runs through December 11

Princeton's 1998 United Way campaign in support of the United Way of Greater Mercer County runs through December 11 on the main campus and on December 1 at the Plasma Physics Lab. This year's fund drive chair is Joseph Williamson, dean of religious life; the faculty chair is Joseph Taylor, professor of physics and dean of the faculty.

"At a time when federal assistance to service organizations has been significantly reduced, it is vital that all of us lend a helping hand," says Williamson. "The University will contribute a minimum institutional gift of 10 cents for every dollar donated to United Way by employees. And as an added incentive to donate by payroll deduction, Princeton will contribute an additional five cents, for a total of 15 cents for every dollar given by that method."

More than 90 percent of every dollar contributed to United Way goes to human care services. Only 8.6 percent is applied to fundraising and administration. Contributions to the local United Way help people in Cranbury, East Windsor, Ewing, Hamilton, Hightstown, Hopewell, Kingston, Lawrence, Monmouth Junction, Montgomery, Pennington, Plainsboro, Princeton, Rocky Hill, South Brunswick, Trenton, Washington and West Windsor.

Pledge cards will be distributed by United Way campaign volunteers. Anyone with questions about the campaign or the United Way should contact their departmental campaign volunteer or access the United Way home page. Or main campus employees may call Susie Van Doren at 258-3042 and Plasma Physics employees should contact Mary Ann Brown at 243-3045.
