Academic achievers

Seventy-two students have received the President's Award for Academic Achievement. At the award dinner in Prospect House on October 21, each winner received a boxed set of The Iliad and The Odyssey, translated by Marks Professor of Comparative Literature Robert Fagles, as shown by Patrick Rose '01 of Rockefeller College (r).

Pictured are I-shin Chow '00 (l); Butler College master Edward Champlin, Cotsen Professor of Humanities; and Yuliy Sannikov, Pamela Carter, Ian Hagemann, Maryam Mokhtarzadeh, Benjamin Sommers, Alexandra Rothstein, Michael Kesden and Michael Sollazzo, all juniors.

New this year, the President's Award recognizes outstanding work done by first and second year students. "It symbolizes the high value we attach to serious and successful engagement in the intellectual pursuits that constitute the core of undergraduate education at Princeton," said President Shapiro, who attended the award dinner, along with Dean of the College Nancy Malkiel, Dean of the Faculty Joseph Taylor, and the masters and directors of studies of the residential colleges.
