In museum storage area, Maureen
McCormick examines "Judith With the Head of
Holofernes," a copy by Rembrandt Peale (American,
1778-1860) of a painting by Cristofano Allori
(Italian, 1577-1621). The painting has been
returned after being on loan to a traveling
exhibit, "The Peale Family: Creation of a Legacy,
1770-1870," which was shown at the Philadelphia
Museum of Art, Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco
and Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.

Maureen McCormick is "used to getting blank looks when I
tell people I'm a museum registrar," she says.
McCormick, who is registrar of
Princeton's Art Museum, describes her job as "a cross
between a librarian and an air traffic controller. You could
say I'm the gatekeeper of the museum, keeping track of what
comes into our building and what goes out." For the Art
Museum, that means approximately 400 acquisitions a year and
approximately 60 loans to other museums. ...
The featured speaker at this year's Martin Luther King Day program will be Harvard Law School professor Randall Kennedy, author of Race, Crime and the Law, a member of the Class of 1977 and a University trustee. The program will take place at 1:30 p.m. on January 19 in Richardson Auditorium, Alexander Hall. All members of the community are invited.
Adeel Qalbani '98, Colm Singleton '98 and alumnus Narayanan Kasthuri '96 have been awarded Rhodes scholarships, and seniors Alex Heneveld, Andrew Neitzke and Aisha Williams have been named Marshall scholars. Qalbani was awarded both a Marshall and a Rhodes scholarship but, by the terms of the agreement with the Rhodes Scholarship Committee, will accept the Rhodes.

The Plasma Physics Lab's eight-week Science on Saturday
program begins on January 17 with a lecture by Gillian
Knapp, professor of astrophysical sciences, on "Mapping the
Universe."
All lectures in the series begin at
9:30 a.m. in Gottlieb Auditorium on the Forrrestal Campus.
The program is geared toward high school students but open
to all. ...
"The Bards of Princeton," a course that features readings
and discussion by several University faculty members, will
be offered by the community-based Princeton Adult School
during its upcoming spring semester...
"The Universe: What We Know and What We
Hope Yet to Find Out," will feature professors of
astrophysical sciences...
"Not Your Everyday Garden." will include
a talk by Grounds Manager...
