Open house planned on arts and transit neighborhood

Princeton NJ — An open house on the University’s proposed arts and transit neighborhood is set for 4:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at the University Store, 36 University Place.

Those attending will be able to view a model and visual displays and ask questions of the planning team. A presentation will take place at 8 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

The creation of an arts and transit neighborhood that more fully integrates campus and community is part of the 10-year Campus Plan recently produced by the University.

This project is designed to support a significant expansion of the University’s commitment to the arts, helping to achieve the goals of the creative and performing arts initiative announced by President Tilghman in January 2006. The area near the intersection of Alexander Street and University Place also would serve as a new gateway, with public plazas, cultural and retail spaces (including a relocated Wawa store), and reconfigured roads and transportation systems to improve traffic flow and transit connectivity.

The plan was produced over the last two years following thorough analysis of the 380-acre campus by a team of experts and significant involvement by stakeholders. A 24-page brochure providing a synopsis of the plan is posted on the Campus Plan website in PDF format at www.campusplan.princeton.edu. The full plan will be published in a 180-page book that soon also will be posted on the site.

Those with questions about the open house may call the Office of Community and Regional Affairs at 258-5144.
