She has been executive director of the International Parking Institute, a professional trade organization based in Fredericksburg, Va., that provides leadership, information and education to parking professionals. She also previously worked as director of parking and transportation at Rutgers University.

“Kim is a dynamic and experienced parking and transportation professional manager and a national leader in the field,” said Paul Breitman, general manager for University Services, to whom Jackson will report. “She will bring vision and energy to her new position here at Princeton.”

The position was created when it became apparent, during the University’s recent campus planning process, that a comprehensive and integrated approach should be developed and implemented for University parking and transportation to support the overall campus plan for the next 10 years and beyond.

Jackson is expected to use a customer-focused approach to handle tasks ranging from meeting the parking needs of University constituencies to determining an appropriate commercial transportation service provider for the campus shuttle system. In addition, she will be responsible for producing a campus transportation demand management (TDM) program that uses strategies to promote sustainability and effectively reduce campus traffic and the University’s carbon footprint by encouraging the use of mass transit, bicycles and walking and by establishing vanpools and carpools.

She will work closely with other departments within University Services and with other key units at the University, such as the facilities and public safety departments and the Office of Information Technology.

Jackson has been executive director of the International Parking Institute since 2005; she previously served as its director of professional development for eight years. She earned designation as a certified administrator of public parking (CAPP) through the institute and the University of Virginia.

A graduate of Rutgers University, Jackson worked there as assistant director for administration in University Parking Services from 1988 to 1993. She served as director of parking and transportation in 1993-94.
