The University is expanding its teaching and research capabilities in neuroscience — considered by many the next field ripe for significant scientific breakthroughs — by launching an institute that will bridge many disciplines and take a new approach to studying the brain and nervous system.

Hall at Whitman College will honor class of 1981

For the first time at the University, a class that graduated after World War II will have a dormitory named in its honor. The new 1981 Hall, a gift from members of the class of 1981, will be located within the Whitman College residential complex, now under construction, and also will become the first dormitory to honor a co-educational class.

Rabaté appointed full professor

The appointment of Jean-Michel Rabaté as the Edwards S. Sanford Professor of Comparative Literature has been approved by the Board of Trustees. Rabaté, whose appointment is effective Sept. 1, 2006, will come from the University of Pennsylvania. This past spring, he was named the inaugural holder of Penn’s Vartan Gregorian Professorship in the Humanities.
