Annual retiree open enrollment is Oct. 7-Nov. 1

The University's annual retiree open enrollment period is scheduled for Oct. 7 through Nov. 1.

During this time, retirees may change or waive their health plan coverage as well as remove dependents from their health care plan. If health care coverage is waived or if dependents are removed from the plan, re-enrollment at a later date is not permitted. Any changes are effective Jan. 1.

Retirees soon will be receiving information in the mail about the changes being made to the retiree health care plans. They will receive a letter as well as information comparing the different plans in which they are eligible to participate. A Princeton Health Care Plan Election Form, which includes the new monthly rates for 2003, also will be enclosed for those retirees who wish to elect a new health care plan for 2003.

One change is that the University is implementing its new Princeton Medicare Plan for Retirees Age 65 and Over on Jan. 1. Participants in the standard and premium plans are being offered the opportunity to elect this new plan, which is secondary to Medicare, during open enrollment. This opportunity may not be offered at a later date.

The Office of Human Resources is providing informational sessions about the new Princeton Medicare Plan at these times in the HR training room, 7 New South: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Oct. 9-11; and 2 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 15-16. Sessions also will be offered at the Gottlieb Auditorium at the Plasma Physics Lab at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17.

More information on this plan, as well as on health care plan changes for retirees under 65, on prescription drug plan changes and on a new group long-term care plan will be sent in the mail. Anyone who retired prior to 1984 will not be affected by any of these plan changes.
