Princeton NJ -- Hollywood arrived on campus March 27 when Ron Howard (left) began directing Russell Crowe (right) in the Universal Pictures film, "A Beautiful Mind."

Crowe plays John Nash, who earned his Ph.D. from Princeton and now is a senior research mathematician in the Department of Mathematics. Nash, who has battled schizophrenia, was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1994 and was the subject of a biographical book that inspired the film.

The shooting, which began near Henry Hall, attracted a large group of onlookers. The production company has hired Princeton students to work on the crew and to play extras. Filming was expected to continue through the week and to resume on campus following commencement in June.
