Alumni Day draws more than 1,300     Moira Lavelle was captivated by the tiger skeleton in the display case at the Frist Campus Center when she came to visit Feb. 24 with her father, John Lavelle Jr. '85, for Alumni Day activities.   Princeton, NJ -- It was a weekend that offered something for most everyone. For the more scholarly inclined, events began Feb. 22-23 with a conference on "A Constitution for the Ages: James Madison the Framer," which celebrated the 250th anniversary of Madison's birth and the centennial of the Graduate School. U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia offered his views on Madison's interpretation of the Constitution during a concluding speech on Friday. Madison Medalist Lloyd Axworthy GS'72 (left) and Wilson Award winner Stapleton Roy '56 chatted in Jadwin Gymnasium following the presentation of their awards.   On Saturday more than 1,300 returned to campus for Alumni Day, which began with addresses by two alumni who have served their countries with distinction in the foreign service: Lloyd Axworthy, former Canadian minister of foreign affairs, who was this year's James Madison Medalist; and Stapleton Roy, three-time U.S. ambassador, who received the Woodrow Wilson Award.   A reception, dinner and halftime ceremony during the Dartmouth game noted the 100th anniversary of Princeton basketball. From left are Director of Athletics Gary Walters '67, former U.S. Sen. Bill Bradley '65, former head coach Willem "Butch" van Breda Kolff '45, former head coach Pete Carril, Geoff Petrie '70 and John Berger '74, president of the Friends of Princeton Basketball.   But the awards didn't stop there. During the annual luncheon, three Princeton students were honored for their distinguished achievements (see related story), and alumni were honored for leadership in annual giving, schools committees, and community service. Two afternoon panel discussions celebrating the Graduate School centennial featured current and previous recipients of the Madison Medal reflecting on challenges of a new century, including: (ABOVE) Robert Venturi '47 GS'50, Jack Peltason GS'47, William Bowen GS'58, Robert Goheen '40 GS'48, Frederick Seitz GS'34 and John Milnor GS'54; and (BELOW) Andrew Goodpaster GS'50, moderator Kathleen McNamara, George Will GS'68, Lloyd Axworthy GS'72 and Cornel West GS'80 h'76.     Throughout the day, alumni also had opportunities to hear presentations by faculty members on topics like fusion, watch Rapunzel let down her hair with their children, celebrate 100 years of Princeton basketball, or attend a memorial service for alumni, faculty and staff.   The Cotsen Players celebrated the Year of the Fairytale in the Cotsen Children's Library with a special theater production of "Rapunzel." top		[an error occurred while processing this directive]
