New editor takes over at Princeton Alumni Weekly
Jane Chapman Martin will become editor
of the Princeton Alumni Weekly (PAW) as of February
1.
Martin, who earned her AB in English from Princeton in
1989 and an AM from the University of Chicago in 1990, has
consulted in the editing and design of magazines for clients
including Drew University, Montclair State University, the
Lawrenceville School and the University of Chicago.
"This is a job I've had my eye on ever since I started
working in alumni magazines 10 years ago," Martin said.
"It's an especially meaningful opportunity because
PAW is celebrating its centennial in April. I'm very
much looking forward to leading the magazine at this
important point in its history."
As an editorial assistant at University of Chicago
Magazine in 1990-91, Martin shared a Gold Award from the
Council for the Advancement and Support of Education for
staff writing. She then worked for two years as associate
editor of Salt Lake City magazine, one of a
two-person editorial staff producing a 120-page
bimonthly.
In 1994 she became founding director of a publications
office for the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern
University, where she coordinated design, editorial content,
desktop production and printing of all Kellogg's promotional
publications and served as editor in chief of the alumni
magazine, Kellogg World.
Poise and moxie
"We're delighted to have an editor of Jane Martin's
strength and experience assume the leadership of the
PAW," said Peter Brown '70, editor in chief of The
Sciences magazine and chair of PAW's board. "Jane
has the poise and the moxie to be a terrific editor.
"We are also deeply grateful to the magazine's current
staff--especially managing editor Lolly O'Brien--for
stepping up to the plate and doing splendid work under
difficult circumstances during the past few months of
transition."
The Princeton Alumni Weekly is published 17 times
a year. Despite its title, it is published biweekly during
most of the school year, with monthly issues in September,
January, May, June, and July. Its circulation is 60,000. A
special committee composed of representatives of the
PAW trustees, the Alumni Council, and the
University's trustees and administration, is expected to
complete a review of the future of the magazine early in the
new year.
Martin lives in Basking Ridge with her husband, James
Martin '89, and their son Charlie.
