mechanism that allows flocking birds, schooling fish or running herds to travel
in unison without any recognized leaders or signaling system.

2/1/05 -- Concerned about the effects of second-hand smoke and following peer
institutions, Vice President for Campus Life Janet S. Dickerson announced she
has accepted student recommendations to prohibit smoking in undergraduate dormitories.
Princeton receives record number
of applications for class of 2009
2/1/05 -- Princeton University has received 16,077 applications for admission
to the class of 2009, a record number for the University and a 17 percent increase
from the previous year.
Jaros
receives Sachs scholarship for study in China
1/19/05 -- Princeton senior Kyle Jaros has been named the recipient of the
2005 Daniel M. Sachs Class of 1960 Graduating Scholarship, which will fund
Jaros' tuition and living expenses for next year as he travels to Nanjing University.
Princeton donates land for open
space in Plainsboro, South Brunswick
1/19/05 -- Princeton University has donated 127 acres of land in Plainsboro
and South Brunswick as part of a collaborative effort with state and municipal
governments to preserve open space in central New Jersey.

1/11/05 -- Seymour Bogdonoff, a longtime Princeton engineering professor whose
research and leadership in high-speed aerodynamics played a major role in the
U.S. space program, died Jan. 10, his 84th birthday.
Princeton and Smith College launch
engineering student exchange
1/5/05 -- Advancing its goal of increasing the number of women in engineering,
Princeton's School of Engineering and Applied Science has partnered with Smith
College to create a student exchange program.

pool of 2,039 high school seniors who applied through early decision for the
class of 2009.
