Angela Davis to speak at Princeton

WHO: Author and activist Angela Davis, a professor at the University of California-Santa Cruz

WHAT: Address on the human rights and economic impacts of America's growing prison system

WHEN: Friday, September 29th at 7 p.m.

WHERE: Wood Auditorium (Room 10, McCosh Hall) on the Princeton campus

WHY: To mark the 30th anniversary of Princeton University's Third World Center, which fosters a spirit of cultural understanding among racial and ethnic groups on campus

 

Angela Davis, a political activist, professor and author, began her activism as a member of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and the Black Panther Party. In 1968, she joined the Communist Party and twice ran for vice-president on its ticket.

Davis is a professor of history of consciousness at the University of California in Santa Cruz. She is the author of several books, including Women, Race, and Class (1981), Women, Culture, and Politics (1989) and Blues Legacies and Black Feminism (1998), and is known for her contributions to the movements for racial equality, peace and women’s rights.
