Princeton Classics Professor Receives Howard Foundation Fellowship

Princeton, N.J. -- Christian Wildberg, associate professor of classics at Princeton University, has been named a Howard Foundation Fellow for the 2001-2001 academic year. He was one of 11 fellows selected from among 167 scholars nominated in the fields of philosophy, anthropology and sociology.

The fellowships of $20,000 each are offered by the George A. and Eliza Gardner Howard Foundation and are administered by Brown University.

Wildberg, whose discipline is classical philosophy, received the fellowship for research on his project "A Translation and Commentary of Aristotle's Cosmological Treatise "On the Heavens."

Wildberg came to Princeton as an associate professor in 1996, after a year as a junior fellow at the Center for Hellenic Studies in Washington, D.C. In 1997, he received the University's 250th Anniversary Award for the Improvement of Teaching.

A graduate of Philipps University in Marburg, Germany, he earned his Ph.D. at Cambridge University in 1984 and a Master of Theology Degree at Marburg in 1985. He has also taught at the University of Texas and the Free University of Berlin.
