President of Eritrea to speak on war

President Isaias will speak on the war between Eritrea and Ethiopia, which has resulted in tens of thousands of casualties in the last year. The conflict between two former allies is one of the most damaging in the world today.

Isaias joined the struggle for Eritrean independence in 1966 and was one of the founders of the Eritrean People’s Liberation Front (EPLF) in 1970. In 1987, he was named Secretary-General of the EPLF. President Isaias has led Eritrea since its independence from Ethiopia in 1993.

His lecture is sponsored by the African Studies Program.
