WHY: To present the 1999-2000 John L. Weinberg/Goldman Sachs & Co. Lecture

Fredrick P. Hitz, the John L. Weinberg/Goldman Sachs & Co. Professor at the Woodrow Wilson School, is former inspector general of the Central Intelligence Agency. Hitz began his career with the CIA in the late 1960s. He has served as deputy assistant secretary of defense for legislative affairs and director of congressional affairs at the Department of Energy. In the private sector, he has been managing partner at Schwabe, Williamson and Wyatt, a Washington, D.C. law firm. Hitz has won numerous awards for his service to the U.S. government, including the Distinguished Intelligence Medal, presented to him in 1998 by the director of the CIA.

Hitz, a 1961 graduate of Princeton University, received a law degree from Harvard University in 1964.
