Media Alert - Lecture:
Internet Entrepreneur to Speak

Who: Jared P. Schutz ’96, chairman and founder of Proflowers.com, and the founder of numerous Internet businesses

What: The 2000 G.S. Beckwith Gilbert ’63 Lecture

When: Tuesday, March 28 at 8 p.m.

Where: Frist 302 on the University campus

Why: The annual Gilbert Lecture was established in 1988 to bring innovative leaders in business, government and the professions to campus to discuss their companies and careers.

Jared P. Schutz, named one of the top 10 young entrepreneurs by Success Magazine, began his entrepreneurial career while still in high school. Directly following his graduation from Princeton, he served as executive director of Bluemountain.com, the popular electronic greeting card site, which was sold to Excite@Home in 1999 for nearly a billion dollars.

Schutz’s many Internet start-ups include: American Information Systems, Inc., which he co-founded in 1993 to develop custom Internet software and eventually sold to Exodus Communications; and Stardot Consulting, which he founded in 1995 to advise candidates and political organizations on new media strategies and recently was sold to Netcapitol. In 1999, he launched both Dan’s Chocolates, a Watertown, Mass.-based candy company headed by Princeton alumnus Dan Cunningham ’97, and Lucidity, a site which customizes Internet shopping and gift-giving for businesses.

Proflowers.com, which Schutz launched in February 1998, operates a site on the Web offering fresh flowers to customers directly from growers anywhere in the world. The company also supports a variety of charitable causes.
