Director of Kuwait Information Office on the Future of the Arab World
Princeton, NJ -- Shafeeq Ghabra, director of the Kuwait Information Office, will speak on "Is the Arab World Coming in from the Cold War? Possibilities for Democratization" at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs on Monday, February 7, at 4:30 p.m. in Robertson Hall, Bowl 1.
Ghabra, who is also a professor of political science at Kuwait University, is the former editor-in-chief of Kuwait's Journal of the Social Sciences and is the author of weekly columns on political affairs for Kuwait's daily newspapers Al Ra'y Al A'am and Lebanon's daily newspaper Al Nahar. A long-time advocate of democratic reform in the Middle East, he is the recipient of Kuwait's highest award for scientific research in the humanities and social sciences from the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of sciences. One of his books, Palestinians in Kuwait: The Family and Politics of Survival was named outstanding academic book of 1989 by Choice. His most recent book is titled Israel and Arabs: from the Conflict of Issues to the Peace of Interests.
He holds a Ph.D. in government from the University of Texas and an M.A. in political science from Purdue University.
