Scene 1: On the eve of Boris Godunov's "election" as czar, the disgruntled nobles Vorotynsky (freshman Philicia Saunders) and Shuisky (sophomore Sam Zetumer) have been discussing the lowborn Godunov's feigned reluctance to accept the crown.

Scene 3: The people are rallied to support Godunov -- some do so enthusiastically, others cynically.

Scene 4: At the palace in the Kremlin, Godunov (at right, senior Andy Brown) announces to his boyars that he will accept the crown. The members of the upper nobility make a show of loyalty to the new autocrat.

Scene 4: Crafty Prince Shuisky (sophomore Sam Zetumer) tells Vorotynsky (freshman Philicia Saunders) that their earlier discussion (see Scene 1 caption) should be forgotten now that Godunov is supreme autocrat.
