More than 175,000 pieces of fieldstone from quarries in Alcove, N.Y.,
and Susquehanna, Pa., were used in the construction of Whitman College.
At the peak of the project, some 80 stone masons were supported by 70
additional laborers while they worked with more than 6,000 tons of stone.
