Former Governor Michael Dukakis to Discuss "The Uninsured"
Princeton, NJ -- Former Massachusetts governor Michael Dukakis will give a talk titled "The Uninsured: 44 Million and Counting" at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs on Monday, November 29, at 4:30 p.m. in Robertson Hall, Dodds Auditorium.
Dukakis, who is currently a Distinguished Professor at Northeastern University, is a graduate of Harvard Law School. He spent eight years (1962-70) in the Massachusetts House of Representatives and was elected governor of the state in 1974. During his first term, he worked to address a serious budgetary problem and to restore the state's fiscal health. He lost his bid for reelection in 1978 but was elected governor again in 1982. During his second term, he coordinated policies intended to strengthen the state's economy. He was overwhelmingly reelected in 1986, and in 1987 declared his candidacy for the presidency. He won his party's nomination in the 1988 Democratic primaries, but lost the election to George Bush.
Dukakis currently teaches on issues related to public policy, health policy and politics, state and local government, and public management.
