German Ambassador to Offer European Perspective on NATO and the UN

Princeton, N.J. -- Ambassador Gerhard Henze, Germany's permanent representative to the United Nations, will speak on "NATO and the UN: Cooperation or Confrontation? A European Perspective" at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs on Monday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m. in Robertson Hall, Bowl 2.

Before being named ambassador in 1993, Henze was the director general for Latin American affairs in the Federal Foreign Office in Bonn, Germany. His previous posts included serving as minister counselor at the German Embassy in Washington DC, director of economic affairs of the Senate of Berlin, director of foreign trade affairs, export financing, and arms export in the Federal Foreign Office in Bonn, and spokesman for the western industrialized countries in the UN Conference on Trade and Development. He was a member of the German delegation to the Conference on Security and Cooperation (CSCE) in Europe in the early 1970s, where he was in charge of negotiations on freedom of movement and information for the Helsinki Final Act.

An attorney, Henze holds a Ph.D. in foreign trade law.

His talk is being sponsored by the Woodrow Wilson School.
