Former U.S. Ambassador to Poland to Speak on the Country's Transition from a Totalitarian to a Democratic Government

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Nicholas Rey, former U.S. ambassador to the Republic of Poland, will give a lecture entitled "Poland 1989-1997: From Communist Basket Case to Dream Ally" at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs on Tuesday, December 9, at 4:30 p.m. in Robertson Hall, Bowl 5.

A 1960 graduate of Princeton University, Rey became ambassador to the Republic of Poland in 1993 after serving as vice chair and director of the Polish-American Enterprise Fund from 1990 to 1993. In his earlier career, he worked in finance in both the private and the public sectors. Rey was managing director of Bear, Steams & Co. (1987-92) and of Merrill Lynch Capital Markets (I 971-87) and vice president of Drexel Harriman Ripley (I 968-70).

Additionally, from 1970 to 1971 Rey was a staff member of the President's Commission on International Trade and Investment Policy, and from 1967 to 1968 he was director, executive secretary, and staff assistant to the Secretary of the Treasury. Rey also is affiliated with a number of organizations, including the Council on Foreign Relations, of which he has been a member since 1972, and the Resource Foundation, which he directed from 1990 to 1993.

The Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs is sponsoring Rey's talk.
