AT&T Awards Industrial Ecology Grant to Center for Energy and Environmental Studies

Princeton, N.J. -- AT&T today selected researchers at Princeton University's Center for Energy and Environmental Studies as one of four recipients of the AT&T Foundation Industrial Ecology Faculty Fellowship program for their project "Recycling and the Role of the Internet." The winning researchers receive $25,000 in research funds, and the Center's Principal Investigator Valerie Thomas also is named an AT&T Industrial Ecology Fellow.

Established in 1993, the AT&T Foundation's Industrial Ecology Faculty Fellowship program is intended to stimulate interdisciplinary research and curriculum development that involves social issues, engineering, the sciences, economics, management, business, law and public policy efficiency.

AT&T believes that social responsibility is part of the company's heritage and part of its strategy for the 21st century. To complement this spirit of responsibility, AT&T supports research in the field of industrial ecology as it provides a systems view of economic and environmental efficiency.

Industrial ecology can be a powerful tool for environmental and economic progress. Princeton University's "Recycling and the Role of the Internet" project researches a critical area that impacts every one of us. Using the Internet, Princeton researchers will seek to demonstrate that the Internet has the potential to revolutionize the redistribution of consumer durables and other waste products.

The AT&T Industrial Ecology Faculty Foundation Fellowship program is part of a series of AT&T Foundation grants that advance the development of work in environmental fields. The AT&T Foundation is the principal vehicle of philanthropy of AT&T and its subsidiaries.
