Statement from Princeton University
Regarding Jimmy Stewart, Class of 1932

We at Princeton University are deeply saddened by the death of Jimmy Stewart. He was one of our most beloved and recognizable alumni, and his service both to Princeton and to the nation were uncommon for someone of his fame. We feel fortunate that we were able to pay tribute to him this past May by renaming our film theater for him.

As President Harold Shapiro said that day, "He has set a shining example for Princetonians, indeed for everyone, both through the steadfast integrity of his personal life and by the larger-than-life aspirations and virtues that he projected onto the silver screen and into the hearts of so many people in this country and around the world."
