Consumer Price Index to be Topic of Princeton Lecture

Princeton, N.J. -- The deputy commissioner for the Bureau of Labor Statistics, William Barron, will speak on "The Consumer Price Index Controversy" at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs on Thursday, March 13, at 4:30 p.m. in Robertson Hall, Bowl 1.

Barron, who has been with the Bureau of Labor Statistics since 1968, has been in his current position since 1983. His responsibilities include directing the day-to-day operations of the bureau, which produces economic data of vital importance to the public and private sectors. He manages all aspects of the bureau's involvement in the federal budget process, including budget proposal development and estimation and explanation of cost estimates. He represents the bureau to government and non-government groups, including the Congress, businesses, and the media.

His lecture is sponsored by the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, the Princeton University Survey Research Center, and the Center for Economic Policy Studies.
