Ambassador Reports on the "New" South Africa

Princeton, N.J.--Franklin Sonn, ambassador to the U.S. from South Africa, will give a lecture titled "The New South Africa: A Progress Report" at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs on Monday, Nov. 25, at 4:30 p.m. in Robertson Hall, Dodds Auditorium.

Ambassador Sonn's political career began officially when he was asked by former President Jimmy Carter to serve on the team that monitored the 1992 general elections in Zambia. The following year, he campaigned for the ANC for the elections held in the western Cape. His appointment as ambassador followed. Sonn also serves as a board member of Nedbank and Metropolitan Life and is an executive director of New Africa Investments Limited.

A teacher by training, Ambassador Sonn was appointed principal of Spears Bona, Athlone, in 1974, and as principal of Cape Town's Peninsula Technikon in 1977. Between 1975 and 1991, he was president of the Cape Teacher's Association of South Africa.

Ambassador Sonn's lecture is sponsored by the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.
